Why would you choose an AirBnB over a hotel? One of the straight-forward answers to this question is cost. You are going to pay a lot less for a longer stay than you would at a hotel, but is this going to be the style accommodation you are looking for? Will this style suit you?
AirBnB has got to be one of the biggest accommodation platforms out there today. They have a fantastic app which is easy to use with filters, reviews and locations to choose the best property for you. Whether that’s a family holiday, friends catching up or a couple.
With an AirBnB this is usually a self-catered accommodation. You will be going out for your meals or you will be cooking them. For a lot of people going on a holiday, having to cook a meal is the last thing on their mind to want to do. When you go on holiday most people will want to have someone else do this for them and I completely understand that. Especially when you have been doing the good housewife routine with three children and a husband all year. Those mothers probably couldn’t think of anything worse. So in this case a hotel would be the best option for you?
Facilities at an AirBnB can be very basic, you may be able to find houses and cabins, which are out in areas like the countryside, where you would have your own pool or jacuzzi, for example. These AirBnB’s would be very popular so they are likely to sell out the quickest, keep this in mind. If you see one you may want to snap it up before you refresh the page. On one hand facilities at an AirBnB may be what you are wanting, instead of a loud, noisy kids club, you are able to spend quality time with all the family and finding other things to do. However on the other side of that you may be wanting to set loose your kids at a club so you can then do your own thing whilst away. It’s all relevant.
Have a think about the following questions if you are stuck as to whether an AirBnB would suit you best or a hotel.
- Is the location better at the AirBnB or the Hotel?
- Do we want a self-catering property?
- How long are we going to be away for?
- What budget are we looking at spending?
- Are we going to be spending most of our time in the accommodation or out of it?
- Do we need any facilities to keep ourselves, friends or family occupied?
Another thing I pointed out in there was location, location, location. This is very important for any stay and it can help to narrow down the preference also. So, imagine you are going to Mexico (fly and flop holiday), there is a beautiful five star hotel which is right on the beach, lovely pool, waiter poolside service, all inclusive with your drinks and food. Let’s say you have a look at an AirBnB, a small quaint place, set back from the beach, more cost effective, but now you have to go out for all of your meals/drinks when all you wanted to do was fly to a country and relax without having to think of anything. This was based on a fly and flop example and travel style so of course the hotel is looking like a perfect match. But, now say instead of someone taking care of you the whole time. You want to go out exploring Mexico all day, you want to try local food, restaurants, and drinks, at tiny street side, homebased, cafes you find on the way. Which now is looking more appealing for someone wanting this style of travel and holiday?
It’s all relevant. AirBnB’s are fantastic for multiple reasons but have a think before you decide to just got for this because it is the cheapest option. Remember you want to be enjoying your time.
